The very first king of Israel stopped listening to God. So, God told a prophet named Samuel to go find a brand new king! Samuel went to a house with eight sons. When Samuel saw the oldest, tallest brother, he thought, 'This must be the new king!' But God said, 'No. Do not look at how tall or strong he is. I have not chosen him.'

Week 1 introduces David not as a crowned hero but as a hidden servant. God rejects Saul's model of visible strength and chooses a shepherd boy whose heart trusts Yahweh.
